About

For more than a century, Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary and Live Oak Memorial Park have built a solid tradition of service. Our professional, experienced and dedicated staffs have provided exceptional and compassionate care to families at a difficult time in their lives.

100 years in the San Gabriel Valley

Front entrance at Live Oak Memorial ParkTurner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary has more than 100 years of experience catering to the funeral and cremation needs of Monrovia, Duarte, Arcadia, El Monte, Azusa, Temple City and the San Gabriel Valley.

Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary and Live Oak Memorial Park are also members of the Dignity Memorial® network—the largest network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers in North America. Being a member of this network, Live Oak has the ability to provide additional resources and packages to fit virtually any family’s budget.

Ease of both funeral home and cemetery

We are a combination of a funeral home and cemetery on a single property. This allows families to make every plan and arrangement at a central location with our funeral home and cemetery teams. Working together, these two teams are experienced at helping families make every decision from start to finish.

The cemetery offers a variety of final resting options to suit your needs: traditional ground burial, mausoleums, a columbarium and cremation niches. We are also among the few parks in the San Gabriel Valley that offers upright monuments.

Our chapel and multicultural services

The chapel at Live Oak opened in 1965 and seats 125 people. There’s an archway in the back as well as other design elements for an aesthetically pleasing and calm feel.

Situated toward the middle of the memorial park, the chapel is a non-denominational space that can be used for funeral services of any faith or culture. Our staff speaks both English and Spanish. If your family speaks another language, we can bring in a translator for clear, easy communication.

For more intimate gatherings, there’s also what’s known as a slumber room, which can be used for smaller services or viewings.

Catering and comfort

You can host a reception at Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary for friends and family to gather and comfort one another after the funeral ceremony. Our catering room fits 25 to 30 people with round tables and chairs. You are welcome to bring in your own food or work with one of our favorite caterers. We want you to choose whatever is right for you to relax and talk with your loved ones.

Personalized funeral services

Though Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary is very experienced with traditional funerals, we also love helping someone customize a funeral or memorial service. There are many wonderful options when you start looking into what’s possible.

For example, we held a ceremony for a basketball referee and arranged for everyone to dress up in black and white referee uniforms. We conducted a funeral for a Star Wars fan, complete with light sabers and Darth Vader decorations. If you’re interested in finding ways to personalize a funeral, simply let our staff know and we’ll help with everything.

On-site crematory

For those who want a cremation, we have an on-site crematorium. Due to cultural beliefs or personal preference, a family may want a cremation viewing, sometimes also known as a witness cremation. We’re able to accommodate whatever you desire around cremation, and we’ll also help find the right combination of memorial services for your loved one.

Live Oak Memorial Park cemetery

Estate area at Live Oak Memorial ParkLive Oak Memorial Park is a Monrovia cemetery that’s served the burial needs of San Gabriel Valley residents since 1887. Often described as calm and serene by our guests, the cemetery is located near the Sierra Madre Mountains.

Our 55 acres were originally orange groves before the property was turned into a cemetery by pioneers. To this day, our memorial park has a beautiful mix of trees and plants, including, of course, live oaks.

The cemetery grounds themselves are very flat, which is an important consideration for our elderly guests who wish to easily navigate the grounds. As a result of all the trees, much of our property is shaded.

Burial options

Live Oak Memorial Park offers a diverse selection of burial options, including traditional ground sites, mausoleums and private family estates. For those who choose cremation, we offer columbaria, cremation niches, boulder memorials and cremation gardens. We are one of the few parks in the San Gabriel Valley that allows upright monuments.

Gardens and landmarks

Statue at Live Oak Memorial ParkOur cemetery is divided into different garden sections. A different landmark statue symbolizes the theme of each garden.

In the Masonic Garden, for example, there is a statue of a masonic altar. The Jardin del Angel has a statue of an angel. The Columbarium of Eternity honors Buddhist culture while the Garden of Tranquility is one of our cremation gardens.

Other gardens include Sunshine Garden, Mausoleum of San Gabriel, Upright Historical Garden, Oak Leaf Garden, Evensong Garden, Lady of Angels, Garden of Harmony, Garden of Victory and the Tree of Life Garden.

If you’re interested in a tour of the cemetery property, simply reach out to our staff and we’ll be happy to show you around.

History

Live Oak Memorial Park has been a Monrovia cemetery and integral part of the San Gabriel Valley for more than 100 years. Our cemetery was established in 1887 as a pioneer cemetery. Originally, our focus was on people who had come west to make a new life in California and needed a place to bury their loved ones.

San Gabriel Valley funeral home and chapel

Our mortuary was established in 1962 by Mr. Turner and Mr. Stevens. For more than 50 years, this funeral home has been dedicated to providing the people of Monrovia, Duarte, Arcadia, El Monte, Azusa, Temple City and the San Gabriel Valley with funeral and memorialization services.

The chapel was built a bit later, with the grand opening in 1965. We’re always looking for ways to improve our facilities. In 2013, we remodeled the chapel for additional privacy. We reupholstered the pews, repainted the chapel and retiled the floor for an updated feel.

We renovated the funeral home in 2017, creating more space in the lobby, refreshing the paint, and updating restrooms and furniture. In 2017, the cemetery opened a new mausoleum—the first added in 20 years.

Community events

We love being a part of the San Gabriel Valley community. Though families come to us in times of need, we also invite our neighbors to Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary and Live Oak Memorial Park throughout the year to celebrate various holidays.

On Mother’s Day, we pass out roses to those who visit their mothers' graves.

Each Memorial Day, we hold an event to honor the men and women of the military. We have an airplane flyover and put on the event in coordination with the Allied Veterans of San Gabriel. People who attend enjoy hot dogs and drinks while we celebrate our veterans.

On November 2, we host a Day of the Dead event with a full mass, mariachi singers and Aztec dancers.
